Dad
Thinking about Father's Day
First try a wife and daughter Second try a wife and son Third try a wife that bothered Fourth try just someone I was a disappointment I was an afterthought I was the unanointed I was never sought I was just a daughter I'm now the only one You were twice a father You and son are gone I wish you all a happy Father's Day. If you have/had a good dad, be grateful, and make sure you remember him and thank him as often as you can for being there for you. For all you dads, thank you for looking out for the welfare of your children, for being involved in their development and for being good role models. I didn't have this experience with my father, who chose self-appeasement over responsibility. Fortunately, my mother and grandparents were always there for me.

I get it.... my grandparents saved me.
Some men are just empty suits looking for an easier route. You got the raw end of the biological lottery, Carole, but won in the end. You didn't just survive his absence, you outlived his ghost. That’s the only poem that matters here. Keep writing the blood out.
